Tried Pilot Supplement Method for Channel Estimation of UWA-OFDM System
Abstract
The original pilots are insufficient to accurately recover the channel impulse response in underwater acoustic OFDM systems (UWA-OFDM). Previous studies, inclusive of the PE, RPS methods, have enhanced channel estimation quality by supplementing them with potential pilots. These supplemental pilots are derived from signals near the constellation points. Nevertheless, these methods lack an evaluation mechanism for the pilots, potentially leading to incorrect mapping and ineffective supplemental pilots. To inscribe the issue, the Tried Pilot Supplement method (TPS) is introduced, which encompasses both the selection and evaluation of pilot candidates. TPS is evaluated by signals received at moderate distances to the constellation points. The proposed method compares the MMSE, PE and RPS methods under different configurations, such as MPSK and MQAM modulation schemes. The results show that the TPS method consistently surpasses the MMSE, PE and RPS methods in terms of bit error rate (BER).
